Signage For The World’s Biggest Event
For the London 2012 Olympic Games, Hollywood Monster worked with Westfield Stratford City to deliver one of the most ambitious branding programmes in our history. Over 17 months of planning, engineering, and installation, we transformed the venue into a visual landmark for global audiences — all under the watchful eye of the Olympic Stadium and the world’s media.
Westfield needed a partner capable of delivering both large-format, high-impact graphics and small-format materials — at speed, with absolute quality, and in a fiercely competitive supplier landscape. They also required innovation in materials, particularly for sustainability, and logistical solutions that could match the pace of their event calendar.

Promoting the World’s Biggest Sporting Event
Over 17 months, we collaborated closely with Westfield to identify over 40 prime graphic sites, balancing high-impact exposure with budget efficiency. We leveraged existing frames and structures from the original centre launch, allowing funds to be redirected to new, high-profile installations.
Our R&D team engineered innovative solutions to overcome structural restrictions, including a custom aluminium truss system for the giant VISA banners spanning a 30m diagonal gap across the shopping centre street — designed to withstand wind loads while being light enough for safe installation. This required precision-engineered 900mm square, 30mm thick base plates bolted to the roof RSJs.
Solutions We Provided Westfield
We deployed specialist abseiling teams to install graphics in inaccessible areas, including wrapping 16 rooftop staircases beneath a giant Cisco banner directly facing the Olympic Stadium. Sustainability principles — rare for the time — were applied by reusing frames and ballast blocks from earlier installations.
The project demanded 24/7 production from all six of our print machines, complex site coordination, and adaptability when G4S Security’s collapse forced the army to take over Olympic Park logistics. Despite these challenges, every deadline was met ahead of the Opening Ceremony.
Highlights Included…
- VISA banner engineering: A 30m aluminium truss system spanning the shopping centre’s main street, designed to meet wind loading requirements while remaining light enough for installation.
- Cisco rooftop stair wraps: Installed by specialist abseilers in otherwise inaccessible areas.
- Sustainability before it was standard: Reusing large structural frames and ballast blocks from earlier projects.
- 24/7 production: Six print machines operating non-stop during the final 8 weeks.
The Results
From high-flying truss systems to abseiler-installed rooftop wraps, this project pushed the limits of print, engineering, and logistics. Against the backdrop of the world’s biggest sporting event, we delivered every single element on time, with 30,000 sqm of branding seen by millions worldwide — proof that Hollywood Monster thrives under Olympic-level pressure.
