Sustainable Signage & Sustainable Print, Built to Perform

Bold Signage. Small Footprint.

Hollywood Monster is a sustainable large-format print, LED screen and hard signage company built for brands that refuse to choose between impact and responsibility. As one of the UK’s biggest large-format printing, signage and graphics contractors, we deliver eco-friendly signage at scale, without compromising on the boldness, brightness or durability our name is built on.

Sustainability isn’t a page on our website. It’s in the materials we choose, the machines we invest in, and the decisions we make on every single project – from a single shopfront sign to a stadium-scale rebrand.

Our Sustainable Signage Materials

Kavalan – PVC-Free, Full Performance

Kavalan offers the same look, feel and durability as traditional PVC, without the environmental cost. It can be welded like PVC, weighs around 50% less – cutting transport emissions significantly – and delivers the same standard our customers expect.

To put that in perspective:

  • Replacing 1,000sqm of front- or back-lit PVC with Kavalan saves greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to one economy seat on a London-to-New York flight.
  • Replacing 1,000sqm of mesh PVC could save the lives of 4,000 medium-sized freshwater fish.
  • Replacing the total European sales of blockout PVC banners in 2018 with Kavalan could have saved enough fossil fuel for 75 Apollo missions to the moon and back.

UFabrik – Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles

UFabrik is manufactured from cleaned, sorted and shredded plastic bottles, converted into pellets, melted into fibres, and spun into yarn, forming a genuinely unique, fully sustainable substrate. Reusable, recyclable, and available up to 3.1m wide, it’s ideal for one-piece wall coverings, hanging banners, display frames, canvas prints and eco walls.

Our Sustainable Print Process

Being a sustainable print company isn’t just about the materials – it’s about the machines and processes behind them.

  • EFI VUTEk FabriVU: an inline dye-sublimation digital printer using water-based inks, allowing us to print directly onto uncoated materials and increase biodegradability.
  • SwissQ Kudu: a six-colour system equipped with white, varnish, and neon inks to bring any vision to life
  • EFI VUTEk Q5R: a 5-metre LED roll-to-roll printer.

What this means in practice:

  • Printing directly onto uncoated surfaces increases biodegradability.
  • Thinner, robust materials reduce the amount used by over 30%, without compromising strength.
  • Carbon emissions are cut by 80%, running at just 2kW/hr, and LED curing uses 70% less electricity than a standard UV printer.

Case Study: Westfield Bridge Crossing

Westfield needed a sustainable hoarding solution to cover the full width and height of a bridge crossing. Following successful material trials, we delivered a 240m-wide x 4.5m-high hoarding, produced entirely on sustainable materials with water-based coatings and zero PVC, completed by our production and install teams working around the clock to hit the deadline.

Case Study: McDonald’s Coffee Bean Signage

After a 20-plus-year partnership with McDonald’s, we were trusted with a genuinely unusual brief: turning coffee bean waste into signage. The result: wayfinding signage containing 20% recycled coffee bean grinds, now installed in flagship stores, with a distinctive dark brown finish and a faint coffee aroma. Sustainable signage, quite literally down to the material itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is sustainable signage?

Sustainable signage refers to signs and graphics produced using environmentally responsible materials and processes – such as PVC-free substrates, recycled materials, water-based inks and energy-efficient printing – designed to reduce environmental impact without compromising durability or visual quality.

Is Hollywood Monster a sustainable print company?

Yes. Hollywood Monster has removed PVC from the majority of its material range, invested in low-energy printing technology, and holds ISO 14001 environmental accreditation alongside a FESPA-approved recycling partnership.

What are the most sustainable signage materials?

PVC-free materials such as Kavalan and recycled PET-based textiles like UFabrik are among the most sustainable options currently available, offering the same durability and finish as traditional PVC without the same environmental cost.

Do you offer eco-friendly signage for large-scale projects?

Yes. We’ve delivered sustainable materials at genuine scale, including a 240m-wide hoarding installation for Westfield produced entirely on sustainable, PVC-free substrates.

What happens to old signage once it’s replaced?

Through our recycling scheme with FESPA-accredited provider Reconomy, used signage materials can be returned, sorted and recycled into new products rather than sent to landfill. Birmingham-area customers can return used signage directly to our Tyseley facility.

Are sustainable signage materials more expensive?

Not necessarily. We’ve worked to make sustainable materials like Kavalan cost-comparable to traditional PVC, in some cases absorbing part of the price difference ourselves to make switching easier for our clients.

What certifications does Hollywood Monster hold for sustainability?

Hollywood Monster holds ISO 14001 environmental management accreditation, is a FESPA-approved recycling provider, a Clean Air-approved applicator, and an approved beMatrix partner for sustainable exhibition and stand systems.
